>> The Vocal Workshop is an 8-week performance course designed by local musicians Chris Grasso and Paul Pieper that culminates with a live performance. >> When bassist Ron Carter last visited Bohemian Caverns, we told you all the reasons why he is a jazz legend. He will return to the historic club Thursday through Saturday with 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. Accompanying him will be pianist Mulgrew Miller and guitarist Russell Malone. Tickets are $40.

>> If you haven't caught Kenny Garrett live, then you are missing out. Catch the fiery Miles Davis alum Thursday through Sunday at Blues Alley. Tickets to the daily 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $30 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> The Navy Commodores is one of several top notch area military big bands. They will be the featured act this Friday at Jazz in the Garden. Also on the bill is pianist Robert Redd. 5 to 8:30 p.m. Free.

>> Drummer Tony Martucci is one of the most in-demand players on the local scene, and also a member of Three Stars alums The Jazz Update. He will be leading a group this Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force. On Friday, the band kicks off its Jazz Heritage Series at Lisner Auditorium with a performance featuring the celebrated New York Voices. 8 p.m. Free.

>> Saxophonist Luis Faife is a regular on the local scene. This Friday and Saturday, he will lead an excellent ensemble that features both drummer Nasar Abadey and pianist Benito Gonzalez. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.

>> HR-57 hosts regular act, the Saltman-Knowles Quintet on Friday and Saturday. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $12.

>> Guitarist Paul Bollenback and vocalist Chris McNulty are incredibly versatile musicians who will join forces for 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Monday at Blues Alley. The band will also include drummer Richard Seals bassist Steve Haines. Tickets are $22 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> The recently profiled Bobby Muncy teams up with busy local trumpeter Joe Herrera next Tuesday at Bossa Bistro & Lounge. Their group, Radiojazz, goes on at 9:30 p.m. Call 202-667-0088 for set time and cover information.

Ron Carter played on The Low End Theory with ATCQ. He should be in the hip hop notes.

What venue is Luis Faife playing in?

And Zack, I love the "Low End Theory", but Ron Carter played with Miles for a long time and in an influential quintet in the 60s. He definitely belongs here in TWiJ.

Oops, sorry for leaving that tidbit out. Luis Faife is playing at Twins.
