Potentially great news for Black Rooster Pub loyalists. The longtime downtown watering hole served what it thought would be its last drinks on October 16, after the bar's owner, Jody Taylor, learned at the end of September that his had landlord had declined to renew the Rooster's lease. Heartfelt farewell stories to the pub appeared in the media shortly thereafter, and we chalked the whole sad story up to accepting that nothing, not even a popular, 40-year-old Washington bar, lasts forever. But earlier today, the BlackRoosterPub twitter feed provided the first glimmer of hope:

Reached by telephone, Rooster Pub kitchen manager Phillip Turner confirmed that the bar does indeed hope to reopen in the next two to three weeks. Turner said that as he understood it, the leasing agent and the building owner "were able to work out something."

Actually, I was implying that Nickles was the slut. As for charges of racism, I'll remind you that this place is called the BLACK Rooster. Of all the chicken-themed establishments in DC, why did "the man" decide to shut THIS one down? El Pollo Primo, El Pollo Sabroso, El Pollo Redundanto...why aren't they threatening these places with closure? I'll tell you why. This is all part of "the plan" to flood the city with illegal immigrant chickens in order to rid the city of Black Roosters. It's in Revelations, people!
As for Liz, she may be angry and stupid, but she's no racist. Take the average black man and ask him that. She gotta pack much back.

Thanks for the updates on the rooster! I work down the street and my colleague and I went to the rooster twice before they closed the doors -- what we thought was the last time. It'd be great to go back again!

Keeping my finger crossed for this!! It was my default lunch place for a few years, as in "Whaddya' want for lunch?" "Dunno". Black Rooster!!
The Black Rooster Pub will re-open for business on Monday, Nov. 16, exactly one month after the Rooster was set to close for good, and the Grand Re-Opening Party is scheduled for Friday, November 20.
