DDOT Selects Projects for Public Space Enhancement

The District Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced the ten projects that have been selected to receive funding through DDOT's Transportation Enhancement Program. The funding includes grants ranging from $50,000 to $579,500 that go toward making improvements on a variety of transportation related projects. Funding for the program is provided through the Federal Highway Administration. A full list of the selected projects from the DDOT announcement is after the jump.

  • Cultural Tourism DC: Planning, design, fabrication and installation of self-guided neighborhood historic and cultural trails and signs.
  • Friends of Hardy: Conversion of current public alley, located between Q Place NW and Q Street NW, into a publicly accessible alley rain garden. • National Museum of Women in the Arts: Development of an allĂ©e of major contemporary sculptures and related improvements in the median of New York Avenue between 9th and 13th Streets NW.
  • Tivoli North Business Association: Installation of iron tree box fences from 3400 - 3900 blocks of 14th Street NW.
  • Mount Pleasant Main Street: Streetscape and safety improvements as called for in the Mt. Pleasant Streetscape Study.
  • NOMA Business Improvement District: Landscape design and implementation to enhance the roadwork occurring on and around the New York/ Florida Avenue intersection.

bravo to the friends of hardy. i worked with them on a couple casey trees plantings, and they are some dedicated folk.

the carter woodson money will sure lead to some comments from mr. ray on the shaw listserv!

This list of projects is certainly NW centric.

To be fair, every time DDOT tried to start a project in NE, they got robbed at shotgun-point by a double-amputee in a wheelchair. They're hoping he eventually dies of natural causes so they can break ground on the Edgewood Terrace Improvement Project. This will involve setting fire to all the buildings in Edgewood Terrace.

to be fair to edgewood terrace, things have improved there greatly as residents have been able to buy their apartments and bring stability with ownership of their own homes.

So much for SW waterfront. At least Arena Stage is really shaping up!
