National Zoo Welcomes Baby Gazelle

It's been at least a couple months since we had any new baby animals to coo over at the National Zoo, but the wait is now over! The Zoo recently posted these photos to its Flickr feed of its new dama gazelle calf. The baby gazelle, a girl, was born on Friday to proud parents Adara and Rajih.

Zoo officials say the calf is currently off-exhibit, along with her mother, while she nurses, but hopefully we'll be able to see her for ourselves once she gets a bit older. The birth is also good news for dama gazelles everywhere, as they are listed as critically endangered.

That gazelle looks delicious. A little garlic, a little brandy, a cooking bag et voila!

Gazelle flesh is fairly lean, so cooking in a bag would only result in tough meat. I prefer the old school method of chasing the prey around the yard with a machete; the animal's fear-induced flight response results in tender meat. I'd also opt for a thorough tenderizing junkpunching, a good larding with the rendered fat of babies, and a long marinade in Carlo Rossi. About two hours over smouldering tires should give it the requisite Michelin smoke ring. Serve with a Sun Lite Lemon Flavored Dishwashing Liquid and a nice side salad.

I could probably fit her whole in my smoker.

Hey, hey, this isn't China or something. Save it for Shanghaiist.

We're not talking about cooking and eating Molly!

When an animal runs around, adrenalin is pumping through the muscles causing tough meat. Wait until its sleeping, and then crack it's little head open with a baseball bat. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It looks like the love child of a cow and a daddy longlegs.

is it weird that my dog looks like this gazelle? maybe my dog is part antelope. that would explain the jumping/leaping.

She was born the day before me!! Webe Libras.

Get back in the whelping box, Liz.

Just proof that all babies are ugly...or in Seinfeld terms "Remarkable".

Yes, I was going to look it up, but I said screw it. Thank you for correcting my pop-culture knowledge +1.

"Magnificent"? I give you back my voice from the womb. My first cry. It was a joyful noise. Oh, oh.
