Not That Parents Would Mind That Much

We all make mistakes. But as this editor can firmly attest, we often rely on our most trusted commenters to save us from our small foibles. Apparently, so do the contributors at the Post's D.C. Wire blog -- DCist commenter extraordinaire and local blogger IMGoph spotted this gem on a post about yesterday's gas leak at Thomas Elementary School in Northeast:

Pointing out that schools do not, in fact, operate on a six-day schedule: another fine example of D.C.'s fact-checking commentariat guild.

I don't see why that is bad fact checking. School will in fact proceed normally tomorrow (today). As is normal for saturday, the students will not be coming in. I assume some staff (janitors, etc...) will be coming in as normal.

i'll give you +1/3 on that, sdean, but i'd still argue it's pretty poor writing on the part of mr. birnbaum.

Many DCPS have Saturday Academy which is extra sessions for at risk kids. So it would make sense to say that school would proceed as normal on a Satuday.

Another slow news Sunday! But it's Sunday, so I can't say that I am surprised!
