>> Local mainstay and DCist fave Allyn Johnson will bring his piano wizardry to Jazz Night in Southwest on Friday, along with his gospel jazz outfit, Divine Order. The group features Young Lions drummer Quincy Phillips, saxophonist Tim Green, bassist Kris Funn, and a 6 person gospel choir. 6 to 9 p.m. $5
>> Pianist Eric Lewis is one of the most energetic performers you'll ever see, and is opening a whole new audience to jazz by putting contemporary alt-rock and pop into a jazz context. He's returning to HR-57 on Friday, but get there early because his shows are always packed. 9:30 p.m to 1 a.m. $20

>> The duo of Joel Futterman (pno, soprano sax, bansuri) and Ike Levin (tenor, bs clarinet, perc) aims to explore the possibilities of group improvisation through a passionate musical conversation. Their music can be challenging at times, but there are always ear catching moments along the journey. They'll be at Twins Jazz on Friday and Saturday along with guest drummer, Ronnie Burrage. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.
>> Michael Wolff first gained exposure as the musical director of the smokin' band on the Arsenio Hall Show. Returning to his jazz roots, he has since gone on to play some of the most eclectic piano jazz around. Wolff will be leading his trio on Saturday at the Kennedy Center in a performance that will include a guest appearance by saxophonist Steve Wilson. Tickets to the 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets are $25.
>> Pianist Chuchito Valdes is the son of Cuban jazz master, Chucho Valdes, and has every bit of his dad's skill and bravado. He'll be leading a group on Saturday (9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.) and Sunday (7 to 11 p.m.) at HR-57. $20
>> Local jazz/world music vocalist Loide (pronounced Loy-deh) has a truly global perspective on music, having been born in France and raised in California, with family roots in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau. Earlier this year, she recorded one of her shows at Bohemian Caverns, and on Sunday, she will return to the club to celebrate the release of LOIDE, Live at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 7 p.m. show are $12.

>> On Monday, the recently profiled University of Maryland jazz program will host its Pre-Halloween Scream at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center's Gildenhorn Recital Hall. The concert features all of the school's jazz bands, under the direction of Chris Vadala. 7:30 p.m. Free
>> Ray Parker, Jr., yes, of "Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!" fame, is coming to Blues Alley on Monday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Color us curious. Tickets are $35 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> Blues/folk/jazz guitarist and singer Patty Reese has been compared to Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, and Janis Joplin. If you're in the mood for soulful vocals on top of a well executed roots rhythm, then check her out on Tuesday at Blues Alley. Tickets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
