The woman who was struck by a Metrobus in Trinidad on Monday evening has died, according to D.C. Police. The victim, who has been identified as Stephanie Richardson, 61, of the 1600 block of 11th Place NE, died at just after 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating the fatal collision. Richardson was severely injured when a Metrobus operator passing another bus on the D8 route struck her as she was exiting the second bus. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday on Mount Olivet Road NE. Richardson was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she died today.
Police say no charges have been filed against the driver at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

Terrible.
School buses have a barrier to keep kids from walking in front of the bus. It might have saved her.
WMATA needs to be purged, from top to bottom. Catoe has gallons of blood on his hands in 2009.
Only in DC do such incredible failures remain in power.
I'm reserving judgment in this particular case until I hear more details.
If Ms. Richardson was hit directly upon leaving her bus, one or both of the bus drivers should never be allowed to drive a vehicle again. At a minimum, the second bus would have to have been passing the first bus on the left-hand side, rarely a good idea in most circumstances and never a good idea when it involves driving on the sidewalk, which it would have to if the first bus was letting off its passengers in anything approaching the approved manner.
However, if Ms. Richardson got off her bus onto the sidewalk and was hit crossing the street, which is what I thought happened, it's too soon to start assigning fault to the bus drivers, or Ms. Richardson, or whoever designed the intersection. Was she in the crosswalk? Who had the light? What are the sightlines like? Too soon to tell.
Exactly. And given the fact that most early reports stated that the victim had crossed in front of the stopped bus after exiting, it's entirely possible that she walked out into the street in a non-crosswalk zone from a completely "invisible" position. That doesn't make the accident or death any less tragic, obviously, but it would be a lot harder to hold Metro fully responsible for the situation.
