Weekly Music Agenda

Deer Tick (without Brian Williams, sadly) will be at the Black Cat on Tuesday

MONDAY
>> Japandroids and their new wave garage rock are at the Rock and Roll Hotel this evening, with New Jersey's Real Estate and Brooklyn's Neon Indian. $10/$12, 8:30 p.m.

>> When we profiled True Womanhood in a Three Stars piece, we were smitten with their "crazy beats to go along with their highly emotive songs." See if that promise holds true tonight at the Black Cat backstage. With Grooms, $10, 9 p.m.

>> Sea Wolf and Port O'Brien play DC9 tonight. Both purveyors of indie pop, Sea Wolf will be the light to Port O'Brien's dark. $10/$12, 9 p.m.

TUESDAY
>> If any town in this country is known for its sheer rock genius, it's Providence, RI. OK, maybe not. But if Deer Tick was your only sample, it might be enough to convince you. John McCauley and his troupe take the Black Cat's backstage this week with three openers. $12, 8:30 p.m.

>> The Fervor have gotten off to an auspicious start, sharing stages with the likes of Mates of State and Kaiser Cartel. They're visiting the District at The Red & The Black. And for the low low price of $6, why not check it out? 9 p.m.

>> Do you like layered moody hot chick pop rock that's ready made for the soundtrack of a CW show? Then tonight's your night! Visit the Rock and Roll Hotel for Erin McCarley and Butterfly Boucher. $13/$15, 8:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
>> Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele live up to the whimsy the name indicates. He's playing with D.C. stalwart Stewart Lupton's The Childballads at DC9. $8/$10, 9 p.m.

THURSDAY
>> I couldn't have gushed much more thoroughly in my review of the Dirty Projectors last visit to D.C. And that was only an opening gig. This week they're they main attraction, and have attracted enough people to sell out the Black Cat's main stage. I highly recommend worming your way in if at all possible. 8 p.m.

>> Get your fix of arboreal rock tonight, with your pick of venues. DC9 hosts Lost In The Trees and their moody orchestral sound ($8/$10, 9 p.m.), while Velvet Lounge welcomes Tall Tall Trees and their country stylings (9 p.m., $8).

FRIDAY
>> Tim George is on record as being one of DCist's favorite local guitarists. Formerly of the Black & White Jacksons, he's now a member of Dizzy Spells, who are part of a kick ass lineup at the Velvet Lounge, along with D.C.'s Laughing Man and a couple out-of-towners, Brass Bed and Midnight Spin. Velvet Lounge. $8, 10 p.m.

SATURDAY
>> The Generationals are responsible for what is hands down my favorite song of the moment, "When They Fight They Fight." Their endlessly catchy and well crafted sound will pair perfectly with The Spinto Band when they share the stage this weekend at the Rock and Roll Hotel. $12, 9:30 p.m.

>> Edie Sedgwick, Partyline and Noisy Pig bring the punk party to the Velvet Lounge this Saturday night. $8, 10 p.m.

SUNDAY
>> End your week awash in bouncy indie pop, with Headlights, Pomegranates and The Shaky Hands at DC9. $10, 9 p.m.

i don't know about you all, but i'd pay good money to see brian williams onstage at the black cat...

Me too. I laughed out loud as soon as the pic came up.

I would too, I wish he toured as a standup comedian, dude is funny. See him on SNL last year? Arguably one of the best hosts they've had in years.

He was kicked out of the band for refusing to pick the deer tick off the bearded guy's ass.

Sold out Gaslight Anthem @ 930 on Thursday doesn't crack your weekly music agenda? Wow

Maybe Gaslight Anthem leans a little too fratboy for DCist. I don't think any of them have a hipster beard or sleeve tattoos.

re: the swipe at Providence, RI... Looks like someone has never heard of Lightning Bolt.
