As the Real World Turns

A net importer of fame-seeking twits for the 2008–09 season, the District of Columbia has the opportunity to turn that around today, as MTV is hosting casting auditions for the Real World: [Next City] in Adams Morgan. What then, area douchebag, are you doing at home reading your computer? The auditions are happening now, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Town Tavern. Yeah, yeah, I know, the Real Worlders are real people, too; they saved the world for the short time they lived here; douchebag solidarity and all that.

If DCist hates the Real World so much, why do you continue to post about them?

Ugh. That's what that line was when I went to the farmer's market at 9:30.

hey goliver, if internet people didn't write about the things they hate, the internet would be largely empty (save for porn.) Also, if people only wrote about the things they loved, the internet would be boring as fuck.

True story: Back in college I did stand-up comedy in Austin. MTV came and saw me and asked me if I'd like to be on this TV show where they'd put a bunch of young people into a group house in NYC (as you'll recall, the Real World had a lot of entertainment wannabes the first two seasons). My manager said go for it and things seemed to go well, but then I had to do the last interview on the same day as a good friend's wedding so I couldn't go and MTV wouldn't let me interview on another weekend, so I didn't make the cut. I missed being a Real World douchebag by a hair. [Then I missed being the fourth on Austin Stories because I thought it was never going to happen and I decided to do Peace Corps instead.]
