Bryan Weaver Considering Run Against Jim Graham

Rumors about a possible D.C. Council run by ANC 1C chair Bryan Weaver have been circulating for weeks now, and DCist had been dutifully pestering the longtime Adams Morgan activist to confirm his intentions for some time before ... getting royally scooped by Loose Lips this afternoon. Sigh. Weaver "filed exploratory papers with the Office of Campaign Finance on Tuesday," Mike DeBonis reports.

Weaver was kind enough to at least send us a quick statement via email shortly after the news broke. Given the controversy surrounding incumbent Jim Graham's right hand man, the Ward 1 race could be one to watch in 2010. Then again, Weaver has reportedly only raised about $2,500 so far, and he still hasn't definitely, absolutely decided to run.

So who's been trying to convince Weaver to run? "Friends, activists, small business owners and other ANC Commissioners have approached me," Weaver says, noting that he wasn't too hard a sell, at least conceptually. "It's not a surprise to anyone that I have been really bothered by the atmosphere of the Wilson Building."

"I have always resented influence peddling, petty and punitive politics," Weaver added, in a hardly veiled reference to the Loza controversy.

i'd argue that mr. weaver has a tough row to hoe, but it's good to see actual contested elections in the city. we need that to keep our elected officials honest. the simple coronations that exist in many contests are the antithesis of representative democracy.

Would be a good councilmember, but could be too nice of a guy (as if that's a bad thing!). Graham and his ilk would eat him alive. Hope he wins, though.

It's going to take a lot more than $2,500 and some indecision to stop the roaring juggernaut that is Graham Taint Injection.

Anybody know anything about this guy? I despise Graham (I've contacted the The Gay Illuminati several times and asked if we can trade Graham for pretty much anyone currently designated straight).

Why do I dislike Graham? I blame the state of the taxi industry on Graham (he sees it as a make-work program instead of an integral part of our public transit system). I blame much of the state of parking in DC on Graham (he has consistently fought tougher parking restrictions on commuters parking in DC neighborhoods, siding with commuters over residents). I blame the continuation of the status-quo failures of public housing in DC in part on Graham.

Anyone not named Graham has a good shot at my Ward 1 vote next election. That said, who is Bryan Weaver?

This is a dream come true for me. I guess I might be on of the people constantly encouraging Bryan to run. Its time to put an end to the Grahamstanding

anyone but Graham. use the Metro Board as a sword Weaver. Hit him and hit him hard over the contract extension.
