should be all fixed now
The front right section of the cruiser hit the cyclist, and he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
So the cyclist was still on the hood of the cruiser when he got to the hospital? Things must be pretty tough in Bladensburg when the cops have to do double duty as ambulance drivers for their own accidents.
I think the cruiser hit the cyclist so hard, he was "transported" to a nearby hospital.
Forget the magnets. WMATA should look into "hood-lev transit" technologies. And while this means of public transit will almost certainly have a carbon-neutral footprint, they need to work out some of the kinks in the hoodprint, probably with a rubber mallet. I predict a $12 million multi-year feasibility study that will conclude that more study is needed.
So whatever happened to that basic drivers education rule that says, you are responsible for any accident that occurs from your front car doors forward? If "front right section of the cruiser hit the cyclist" then sounds like the police car driver could have had time to stop.
That’s never been basic drivers ed, because you are ignoring the fact that people can hit you in the front car doors forward (i.e. head on collisions).
Let’s wildly speculate that:
A. This was Bladensburg, so not a hipster on a fixie.
B. 2am Saturday morning. Pulling out of a shopping center where the last store closed 5 hrs ago.
There is enough there to withhold judgment.
