Rock throwing is back in the headlines this evening.

National Intelligencer, March 4, 1844

POLICE INTELLIGENCE.

The Guard on last Thursday night arrested four rowdies in the neighborhood of Capitol Hill, where they were engaged in the dangerous practice of throwing stones in the streets, cursing and swearing therein, and disturbing the public peace. These rowdies, who call themselves and are called “Eastern Branchers,” were all locked up for the night in the watchhouse, and required the next morning to give security for their good behavior for six months and pay the cost; otherwise to suffer thirty days’ imprisonment, with the customary ablution in the workhouse.

And this is exactly what you get when you abolish the workhouse. And still there is no death penalty in England's green and pleasant? The hangman holds our society together. He is the symbol of the great chastiser. He built this world on punishment and fear. Snuff out fear and see what follows. Sons strike their doddering dads. Young girls show their ankles and bosoms and say rude things about the queen. Anything goes, and they do it openly in the street and frighten the horses!

Bring back fear! In the old days, the executioner kept the common herd in order. When he stood on his gallows, you knew God was in His heaven, all right with the world. The punishment for blaspheming was to be broken on the wheel. First, the fibula, crack. Then the tibia, patella and femur, crack, crack, crack! Then the corpus, ulna and radius, crack!

Now hear the Word of the Lord!

I like how the article calls them "children". Wrong. Future jail residents is much more accurate.

Can't we repeal Roper v. Simmons or institute Sharia for rock throwers? Before you call that unacceptably extreme, I'm not talking for everyone. Just youth between the ages of ten and 18.

We know where these kids get the stones to commit these acts of thuggery. Just a stone's throw away, in his glass house, a neighbor with plenty of stones. He who is without sin may cast the first, but soon the stone-throwing mob will follow. When will we have stone control laws to prevent this person from proudly displaying his stones to the entire block? Must everyone get stoned?
