When DCist asked the Caps about their bad habit of taking far too many penalties in the third period of games last Friday night, no one seemed to know what was happening. They obviously haven't figured it out in the last couple of days: Washington again committed three penalties in the third and the Sens equalized matters with Alex Ovechkin in the sin bin for roughing. The three power plays played no small part in Ottawa's relentless pelting -- 18 shots on goal -- of Semyon Varlamov in the final twenty minutes.
Despite the disappointing result, the Caps still maintained their pristine record of getting points after allowing an opponent the first goal -- they are now 4-0-2 in such situations.

calling ottawa eastern canada is like calling chicago eastern US.
As someone who's lived in Ottawa, let me assure you that it is, most definitely, in eastern Canada. In fact, Canadians consider eastern Canada to start at Ontario.
There's also a cultural element to the designation, particularly to Western Canadians. Easterners are the urban elites (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa) that allegedly take the Westerners' oil and mineral wealth while imposing high taxes to subsidize poor Maritimers and pacify Quebec.
no mention of green's awful defensive...sorry DCist, caps analysis is not your thing
It's nice to see everyone pitching in to help pick up the slack while Semin's out.
Oh wait, penalties aren't what we're going for.
It would be nice to read something about our depth. We're certainly not the only team reeling from injuries, but unlike the Pens we're able to get through (though it's looking less and less like that) with our secondary scoring. Perreault has been more than we expected and Beagle picked up his first NHL goal last night.
I think if I could pick anyone to come off the injured list first it would be Knubble. We need his toughness and presence in the crease to keep the offense on track. Then Poti seeing as he's practically the only one who can play defense effectively.
