Good morning, Washington. If you're starting to get that sinking feeling that your drive home tomorrow for Thanksgiving is not only going to be a fustercluck, but a wet, slick, rainy mess at that, we don't have good news for you. The Capital Weather Gang is calling for this rain to continue pretty much for the rest of the entire week, with the worst of it expected on Friday, when windy conditions will kick in to make it feel even colder. The rain should let up here and there for brief periods of time over the next few days, so take advantage of those moments when you see them, and of course, drive safely.
Oversight Group to Inspect Metro Tracks Next Month: The Tri-State Oversight Committee has finally scheduled days in December to come in and inspect Metro track safety, the Examiner reports. The news comes after a rocky, months-long dispute with WMATA over access to the system, and confusion about whether the oversight group has any real power over the transit agency.
In other transit oversight news, the federal inspector general for transportation has decided to go ahead and launch an audit of the Dulles Metro extension, the Post reports. The decision comes after news broke that Dulles Transit Partners might not have been planning enough testing of the foundations it wants to use in the bridge that will take trains over I-66.
District Settles 2000 Protest Arrest Lawsuit: The District has agreed to settle, to the tune of $13 million, a lawsuit by protesters arrested during IMF and World Bank demonstrations in April 2000, the AP reports via the Washington Times. See also City Desk, who compares this case with the ongoing Pershing Park lawsuit.
Briefly Noted: Northbound lanes on the George Washington Parkway reopened after a tree fell in the roadway ... New free shuttle to help relieve holiday traffic at Tysons ... Woman found in burning vehicle may have committed suicide ... Big water main break on Glebe Road in Arlington ... Man fatally struck near National Cathedral is identified.
This Day in DCist: In 2008, the three men who have been charged with conspiracy in the Robert Wone murder case pleaded not guilty, and we offered up our tips for deep frying a turkey.

And Now, 10-20 Inches

Mmmmm....wet slick messy fustercluck. Is it getting hot in here?
If Federal oversight of the Dulles rail extention is as thorough as their oversight of levees, we got nothing to worry about.
The great part is that they already built some of the foundations and supports. What are they going to do, knock it all down and start over?
Hmmm...For Thursday;

Who commits suicide by setting fire to themselves in a car? That's like the guy who commited "suicide" by tying himself up with wire in the trunk of his car in Dulles and setting fire to himself. WTF? I just hope she wasn't a microbiologist.
what kind of oversight is it when you schedule the run-through? that kind of thing should be a surprise, so the wmata folk don't have a chance to run through and make things pretty for the tri-state folks.
Do you think it's possible to deep fry a Tofurky? I'm a vegetarian, but as a southerner I have a fatal attraction to all things deep fried.
As a Georgia boy, I have to confess the same affinity...
+1 to fried food!
I tried sushi once... They seemed offended when I asked them to take it back and deep fry it.
I went to a sushi bar in Portland that did deep-fried sushi. Dipped in tempura batter and then fried. Probably not the only sushi bar in the country that does that...
If you can deep fry butter (and Coke, maple syrup, etc), then you can deep fry anything. If you're vegetarian, what do you use to deep fry? does vegetable oil do as a good a job?
Crisco comes the closest to lard for deep frying in both flavor and texture. Nowhere near as healthy as corn oil, but if you're concerned about healthiness, you shouldn't be deep frying in the first place.
I do small batches of tofu and what have you in either olive oil or peanut oil - I have a "fry baby" deep fryer for that purpose. But I will admit to size envy when my brother is using his big ol' turkey fryer at the holidays. I need something bigger to fry, literally and figuratively.
Speaking of Robert Wone, did they ever figure out how his semen ended up inside his own anus? Because I've been trying to figure out that one for a while and all I end up with is rugburn and a charley horse.
...and flickr photos that you REFUSE to make public.
