Rakim is at the Black Cat on Sunday.
Wednesday:
>> Even though MF Doom is about as likely to show up to the listening party as he is to one of his own shows, this album release party should be worth checking. Hosted by Three Stars alum Flex Mathews, Lounge of 3 (1013 U Street NW) will play host to a listening party for Doom's Unexpected Guest album. Joining him to supply the sounds will be DJ Underdog and NIck Da 1nda. Free, 6 p.m.

Friday:
>> A frequent visitor to the District, songstress Teedra Moses returns for a performance tonight at Liv. $18 in advance, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday:
>> Before Cee-Lo broke out with his Gnarls Barkley project, he was part of one of Atlanta's premier hip-hop groups, Goodie Mob. The four man group is back together and stopping by The Scene for two shows. They'll be joined by a legend in his own right, Houston rapper Scarface. $35 in advance, doors open at 6 p.m. & 10:30 p.m.

>> Nigerian/German singer Nneka is making waves in Europe and venturing across the Atlantic to Jammin' Java in Vienna where she'll be joined by local group, See-I. $10 in advance, 10 p.m.

Sunday:
>> When hip-hop know-it-alls compile a list of the best emcees of all-time, it typically goes: #1 Rakim, #2 everyone else. The "God MC,"Rakim (pictured), is on the verge of releasing his latest album, The Seventh Seal. Also on the bill at the Black Cat is Kanye West associate Rhymefest and DJ P-Funk. $20, 7:30 p.m.

Why is nobody mentioning Wale? Dude is at number 3 on iTunes right now! Who else is putting DC on the map musically like that right now?

I made a mix of all of the good tracks (non skit, non guest star) off of Doom's last three albums. It is 40 minutes long.
