Tuition Increase Proposed for UDC School of Law

2009_1110_clarkelaw.jpg The Board of Trustees of the University of the District of Columbia are proposing a tuition increase at the David A. Clarke School of Law for the 2010-2011 school year. The proposed increase would see residents paying $4,425 per semester, and $8,850 per semester for non-residents. Currently, UDC law students pay $3,675 per semester, and non-residents $7,350.

UDC undergraduates already had their tuition raised earlier this year. The school's board of trustee's has also been under scrutiny of late, as the Post has reported, with Mayor Adrian Fenty squaring off against D.C. Council Chair Vincent Gray in an attempt to see who can put off filling up to 10 now vacant seats on the 15-member board the longest. The only reason the board is able to carry out any actions at all right now is because the D.C. Council voted to permit them to do their work with a reduced membership.

Why would anyone in their right mind spend that sort of money for a law degree from UDC? That degree is not worth the paper it's written on. Sink that dough into a paralegal certification instead and you'll be making more money in a shorter amount of time.

Comforting to know that like all DC bureaucracies, rather than reduce services, they're increasing fees and reducing services.

DreadPirateRoberts, nobody goes to DCSL to be a corporate whore lawyer anyway- it's focus is on public interest law. DCSL graduates are VERY well respected and in demand within the goverment sector and at smaller law firms in the Mid-Atalantic. And since they don't have the six figure debt of most law school graduates, they can actually afford to take a public interest job.

yeah, i'm not a big fan of ragging on schools because they don't have a 5-star reputation. it's up to you as the student to get what you can out of your situation.

george bush, yale, and harvard business school are the three examples i toss out there whenever anyone claims that one school is better than another one.

dreadpirateroberts, i don't even know how to respond to your non-comment. i would just like to add some value to a valueless statement, i suppose. i know incredibly bright people who've worked their asses off not only to get into law school, but to also pass the bar. and some of them went to udc. and that tuition is a steal, by the way. do your research.
