Go Home Already: I Saw the Sign

  • Two AIDS activists were arrested this afternoon after protesting at city hall, both City Desk and WaPo report. Larry Bryant and Matthew Kavanagh of D.C. Fights Back were arrested outside the mayor's bullpen, where they had marched to demand a meeting with Fenty. That's one heck of a way to celebrate World AIDS Day.
  • Southwest ... The Little Quadrant That Could ponders what the Waterfront-SEU Metro station should be called now that Southeastern University is no more. Our vote would be for simplicity, and just go with "Southwest Waterfront." And considering the current economic climate, we won't be holding out breath while the city locates some funding to change all of WMATA's signage.
  • Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon was indeed convicted on a single charge of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary for taking some $600 worth of gift cards, as the Sun extensively reports. "The conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, but prosecutors have not decided whether they will seek jail time." For her part, Dixon said today she has no intention of stepping down.
  • Former Platinum and H2O club owner Abdul Karim Khanu was convicted on tax evasion charges today, and now faces up to 10 years in prison.
  • Unsuck DC Metro offers a WMATA-themed holiday gift guide.

Wow. A Metro system map shower curtain? Station-customized tshirts? I'm there.

Hmm. Strange situation with Waterfront-SEU. Obviously Southeastern paid for the new signage, as per Metro rules. But should D.C. really be responsible for the change? I think if there's anything corporately left of Southeastern, they should have to pay.

Just rename it the Ronald Reagan Southwest Waterfront and it'll be changed in no time.

Seriously though, how much does something like that cost? The new Arena Stage building is right between the Metro and the actual waterfront, and since no one is going to know where it is, a Metro station name might help.

I vaguely remember it being $1 million to change all the National Airport signage...but Wikipedia says only $400k.

I've stared through that window so many times, trying to think of somewhere else to be besides Kramers, and settling for just going home alone where the loneliness of my apartment mocks me. But at least the coffe doesn't taste lime wide-open ass served by same.

The ampersand arouses me in an unfamiliar way.

The odd thing about Kramerbooks & Afterwords is that, if you're smart enough to read the egghead books, you should be smart enough to avoid the food. Then I read that the cafe and the bookstore are run by two different people who hate eachother, and it all suddenly made sense.
