Classical Music Agenda
If one had had any inclination to go hear a concert this weekend, in spite of the snow, everything was canceled anyway. There will likely be more cancellations tomorrow and Tuesday, so as with everything else, call the venue before you head out the door.
LOCAL TALENT:
>> Chantry has rescheduled its Music for St. Mary program to this Tuesday (February 9, 8 p.m.) at St. Mary, Mother of God (5th and H St. NW).
>> Also on Tuesday (February 9, 8 p.m.) the Fessenden Ensemble returns to St. Columba's Episcopal Church (4201 Albemarle St. NW) for a program of rare string quartets by Respighi and Verdi.
>> Inscape Chamber Music Project will play music by Brahms, Justin Boyer, and Arvo Pärt on Thursday (February 11, 7:30 p.m.) in the recital hall of Montgomery College's Music Building in Rockville.
>> The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra brings this week's program to the Music Center at Strathmore on Thursday (February 11, 8 p.m.). It combines Hindemith's Symphony Mathis der Maler and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition with a new work by Dave and Chris Brubeck, Ansel Adams: American.
>> The Post-Classical Ensemble's new performance project is an examination of the music of Franz Liszt, with a schedule of events at Georgetown University this coming weekend, especially two concerts on Friday (February 12, 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (February 13, 7:30 p.m.).
>> City Choir of Washington will perform Duruflé's Requiem Mass and Poulenc's Litanies de la Vierge Noire on Friday (February 12, 8 p.m.) in Arlington's Cathedral of St. Thomas More.

>> Spend your lunchtime with soprano Karin Paludan-Sorey and pianist Danielle DeSwert Hahn, in a free concert of music by Gershwin on Wednesday (February 10, 12:10 p.m.), at the National Gallery of Art.
>> Pianist Sara Daneshpour will play a free recital (reservation required) on Friday (February 12, 7:30 p.m.) at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
>> On Sunday the price of admission to the Phillips Collection includes a free concert (February 14, 4 p.m.) by pianist Sofya Gulyak, playing music by Chopin and Liszt.
>> The Piano Society of Greater Washington hosts a recital on Sunday (February 14, 4 p.m.), at Silver Spring's Calvary Lutheran Church.
>> The National Gallery of Art also hosts a free concert on Sunday (February 14, 6:30 p.m.) by the Ritz Chamber Players, playing music by Perkinson and other African-American composers.

>> The Mariinsky Ballet presents Marius Petipa's choreography of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Sleeping Beauty, starting on Tuesday in the Kennedy Center Opera House (February 9 to 14).
>> A few tickets remain for the recital by violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Jeremy Denk on Tuesday (February 9, 8 p.m.), sponsored by WPAS in the Music Center at Strathmore.
