Tuesday
The New Pornographers play the first of two nights at the 9:30 Club this evening, and it’s no surprise that both dates sold out within weeks of their announcement considering how much of a love fest exists between this city and this band. (Hopefully Neko won't have to make any threats tonight.) The band is touring in support of its fifth album, ‘Together’, a delightfully complex record that will expand your mind (and your vocabulary) all summer long. The Dodos and The Dutchess and The Duke open. 7 p.m., Sold Out.

>> DC9: Young Mammals, Laughing Man (***), Deutschmarks and Deleted Scenes (***). 9 p.m., $8.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Sage Francis, Free Moral Agents, B. Dolan. 9 p.m., $18.

>> Wolf Trap: Chick Corea Freedom Band, Bela Fleck. 8 p.m., $25-$75.

Wednesday
Get lost in Carey Mercer’s remarkable pipes (and lyrics) as Frog Eyes take the stage at DC9 with Beach Fossils and Pearly Gate Music. 9 p.m., $10/$12.

>> Velvet Lounge: Laura Zax, Shadows Ghosts, Deb Felz. 9 p.m., $8.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Good Old War, Yukon Blonde, Audra Mae, 8 p.m., $10/$12.

Thursday
Once listed as ‘Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers,’ but visiting Iota on a solo bill, this folksy songstress belts with all the conflicted emotion that her former band name implies. She visits Arlington with Frontier Ruckus. $12, 8:30 p.m.

>> 9:30 Club: Bettye Lavette. 7 p.m., $25.

>> Black Cat: Gifts for the Homeless Presents Banding Together 2010: Battle of the Law Firm Bands. 7 p.m., $10.

>> Birchmere: Todd Snider, Dan Bern. 7:30 p.m., $25

Friday
Tuareg band Tinariwen uses 30 years of experience to seamlessly meld traditional African beats with modern electric guitars. These nomads bring with them countless tales and the musical skills to tell them. Miles Seaton opens. 9:30 Club, 8 p.m., $30.

>> Black Cat: Billy Woodward and the Senders, Nunchucks, The Chariots, 9 p.m., $10.

>> Black Cat Backstage: Shock Diamond’s DC Re:MIXtape Release Party - An All-DC Music DJ Night. 9:30 p.m., $5.

Saturday
>> 9:30 Club: Matt Pond PA, Wintersleep. 11 p.m., $15.

>> Black Cat: 3rd Annual Bike Prom. 9 p.m., $10.

Sunday
Spectral Vision, The Deaf Scene and Black Dog Prowl make a case for local talent at The Velvet Lounge. 9 p.m., $8.

>> Birchmere: Sarah Harmer, 7:30 p.m., $25.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Men, Sweatheart, Bop Beetle, 8:30 p.m., $12/$14.
