Legendary conductor Lorin Maazel started hosting this festival last year in his country house at Castleton Farms, not far from Shenandoah National Park, and it has quickly become one of the best local events in an otherwise slow time of the year. This is the final weekend of the festival, and one of the new productions, an unusual staging of Stravinsky's L'histoire du soldat and Falla's Master Pedro's Puppet Show, opens tonight for three performances, but only Saturday has tickets remaining (July 24, 4 p.m.). On Saturday is the final performance of Puccini's Il Trittico (July 24, 7 p.m.), and the Castleton Festival Orchestra will close out the festival on Sunday (July 25, 7 p.m.) with a finale program of orchestral music by Beethoven. Tickets (available online or by calling the box office at 540-937-4969): $20 to $85.
