MOVIES: The Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival (1300 Lee Highway, Arlington) presents star-crossed lovers Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet. 8 p.m. Free.
>> The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest tells both the story of George Mallory, who in 1924 attempted to be the first to reach the summit of Everest, and of Conrad Anker, who 75 years later discovered Mallory's body. Catch the film at the Samuel C. Johnson IMAX Theater at the National Museum of Natural History at 7:45 and 9:30 p.m. tonight, $15. SHOPPING: Shop the The Dog Days of Summer Sidewalk Sale (U and 14th Streets NW) Saturday and Sunday, featuring a ton of deals and sales, like The Studio Theatre's annual garage sale.
MUSIC: Partake in a night of tributes and parodies at the Black Cat's (1811 14th Street NW) annual "Run for Cover!" show. Hear performances by Sports Authority, Pure Emotion, Tron Petty, In Ex Sex, Dr. Feelgreat, We Got Da Butt, and others. Who says good music can't also be hilarious? Proceeds go to benefit Fort Reno. $10, 9 p.m.
>> Big names, including Chuck Brown, the Roots, and Erykah Badu are a part of the Summer Spirit Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 3:30 p.m., $44-$100.
>> Musical group Bluebrain is collaborating with another D.C. museum. This Saturday, stop by the Carmichael Auditorium of the National Museum of American History (1000 Jefferson Drive SW) to hear Bluebrain's recently created score for "archival footage of the 1939 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows." There will be four showings, at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday. Free, but RSVPs appreciated.
FESTIVALS: Arts on N Street Festival comes to the Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place NW) to feature artists from all 8 wards showcasing their photography, paper goods, clothing, and more. There will also be concerts, gardening tutorials, painting workshops, cupcake decorating, and more. Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
>> The Living Earth Festival at the National Museum of the American Indian includes a symposium, street market, pottery and weaving activities, concerts, and cooking demonstrations. See the full lineup of events. 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., free.
>> The BrickFair Lego Fan Festival in all of its primary colored block glory is coming to the Dulles Expo Center (4368 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, VA) Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for kids under ten, and free for 3 year olds and younger.
ART: Albus Cavus, an organization that promotes art in public spaces, is hosting a fundraiser at The Freezer (633 E Street SE, rear alley). Come for the art, an auction, a raffle, music, student presentations, and refreshments. Donations accepted. 2 to 8 p.m.
>> Meander through Bloomingdale (along 1st Street, NW, between Florida Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue) for the First on 1st Art Walk, a presentation of outdoor sculpture and installations. After the walk, have a free drink at Windows Cafe (101 Rhode Island Avenue NW) or Big Bear Cafe (1700 1st Street NW), where there will also be live music. 12 to 4 p.m.
MOVIES: If you've always wished you could watch Mystery Science Theater live, get close with the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington) Found Footage Festival. Saturday's screening of "Computer Beach Party," a 1985 comedy that may be so terrible it's good, will be accompanied by live commentary, trivia, and more. 9:45 p.m., $10.
>> If you missed Ride the Divide on Thursday, you have another chance to see this film about a 2,700 mile race from Canada to Mexico at the Mount Pleasant "Movies in the Park" Free Summer Film Series. The movie starts at dusk, and is free -- but as a fundraiser for Neighbors Consejo, feel free to donate $5 to $10.
>> The Summer Film Series from the Atlas Arts Center (1333 H Street NE) continues with Matt Damon's creepy performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley. 8 p.m., $6.
SUNDAY:
SWIM: Marvel at swim-capped heads and synchronized movements at SynchroSwim2010 at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 Eye Street SW). 6-7 p.m.
SHOPPING: While Virginia's tax free holiday ends today, Maryland's is just getting started. Enjoy no taxes on clothing and school supplies today through next Saturday, August 14.
FITNESS: Come kick it with Girls' Summer Soccer Rocks, a females-only soccer training group, at the Ft. Reno soccer field. 6:30 p.m. till dark. Free.
MUSIC: Here We Go Magic brings their "trippy, dreamy" indie rock to The Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW). The Beach Fossils also perform. 8 p.m., $12.
