FRIDAY
FOOD & DRINK: The Michigan Rare Craft Beer Blowout is the fifth and final D.C. Beer Week event from The Big Hunt (1345 Connecticut Avenue NW). Reps from four Michigan craft breweries will be in attendance along with some special beers, including: Founders CBS and Nemesis, New Holland Beerhive and Imperial Hatter, Jolly Pumpkin Callabazza Blanca amd Weizen Bam, and an aged keg of Bell's Third Coast Old Ale. There will also be a "secret surprise keg" from Bell's. 7 p.m.
POETRY: Check out the 6th Annual DC Poetry in the Park, featuring The Last Poets and The Cornel West Theory, at the Carter Barron Amphitheater (16th and Colorado Avenue NW ). 7:30 p.m., free.
COMEDY: Need a laugh? Head to The Big Beautiful Women Comedy Hour at the Warehouse Theater (1021 7th Street NW). Come see Matt Baetz from the Late Late Show w/Craig Ferguson, Jamie Lee of Last Comic Standing, Jermaine Fowler from the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, and Michael Foody. Hosted by Brandon Wardell. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., the show starts at 8. $8.
MOVIE: Catch a midnight showing of the quirky 80s murder mystery that melds cartoons with live action: Who Framed Roger Rabbit? at Landmark's E Street Cinema (555 11th Street NW) tonight and tomorrow. $10.

MUSIC: The 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) celebrates Michael Jackson's birthday tonight with DJ Dredd spinning MJ tracks and showing a video tribute. 8 p.m., $15.
JAZZ: The Young Lions perform two sets at Bohemian Caverns (2001 11th Street NW) tonight. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., tickets $15.
SATURDAY
FAIRS: The D.C. State Fair and Columbia Heights Day both take place at Harriet Tubman Elementary Field (11th and Kenyon Streets NW) this Saturday. Come at 10 a.m. for a bike tour and scavenger hunt, or take it easy with some morning yoga. At 3 p.m., learn the winners of the D.C. Homebrew Contest; at 3:30 p.m., there is a cupcake-eating contest. Also, make sure to check out the winners of the D.C. State Fair photo contest, sponsored by our own Heather Goss' Ten Miles Square. All this, plus music and food judging events take place throughout the day. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., free.
>> The Maryland Renaissance Festival (Route 450 and Crownsville Road in Crownsville, MD) opens Saturday in all it's costumed, jousting, turkey leg-eating glory. This Saturday and Sunday is "Children's Weekend" -- kids 11 years old and younger get in free. 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., $18 for those over age 11, or $15 for those over age 62.
>> Grab your pet and head to the Wags 'N' Whiskers event in Shirlington for music, pet portraits, dog fashion show, contests, and more. 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., free.
FITNESS: A fun run, a dip in the pool, and a lunch of pizza sounds like a pretty great afternoon. Have it all at the the All Feet on Deck 5K fun run and pool party this Saturday at Hains Point (972 Ohio Drive SW). Check-in is at 10:30 a.m., followed by the the run at 11:15 a.m., with a pizza (from Pizzeria Paradiso) and pool party from noon to 2 p.m. Registration required by today. Proceeds go to support Back on My Feet, a nonprofit that organizes running clubs at homeless shelters. $10. 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
>> Run a 5K, take a hike, climb a rockwall, tour gardens, ride a bike, and more at Feet in the Street, a "car free celebration" at Fort Dupont Park (3825 Alabama Avenue SE) this Saturday. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., free.
SCAVENGER HUNT: Grab your bike and get ready for the Hill and Go Seek bicycle-based scavenger hunt (Eastern Market Metro Plaza, 8th Street and Pennsylvania Ave SE). Navigate between points on Capitol Hill, with points for creativity and speed. Then end the night, and hear who won, at the H Street Country Club (1335 H Street NE). Proceeds support Ready, Willing, and Working. 5-8 p.m., $20.
FOOD & DRINK: RFD's (810 7th Street NW) D.C. Beer Week event, Firkin Spectacular, is a cask sampling free-for-all. $40 lets you into the backroom for as many cask samples as you'd like. After 8 p.m., head up front for any cask beer for $5. Buy tickets online, the casks start flowing at 7 p.m.
ART: The Hillyer Art Space (9 Hillyer Court NW) plays host to a Closing Miracle Berry Party for artists Corwin Levi's and Pam Rogers' exhibitions that take on the natural world. Miracle berries mix up your tastebuds to change how you interpret sour flavors. 6 p.m.
SPORTS: Arrr, landlubbers get yer selves to the Carroll County Agricultural Center (706 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster, MD) to see the pirate-themed Chesapeake Roller Derby take on the Penn Jersey She Devils. 6 p.m., $15.
MUSEUM: Pretend to report on the weather, learn about meteorology, make weather tools, participate in a scavenger hunt and more during the Storm Center Newseum Family Day at the Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW). Kids 18 years and younger get in free. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
MOVIES: Learn about corn, its subsidization, and the pros of grass-fed beef at a free screening of the documentary King Corn at Elevation Burger (12525 Park Potomac Ave., Potomac). The film is preceded by a discussion at 7:15 p.m. with Curt Ellis, who co-produced and starred in the film. 8 p.m., free.
>> Up is the Mount Pleasant Summer Movie Series selection on Saturday. Bring a chair or blanket and make yourself comfortable at Lamont Park (Mt. Pleasant and Lamont Streets NW) for the start of the movie at dusk. There will also be a sidewalk sale and kid-friendly activities before the movie. Free.
>> Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is the pick for the Comcast Outdoor Film Festival at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre (16th and Colorado Avenue NW) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Free, but tickets required. Pick them up at the Carter Barron Box Office beginning at noon.
