Toki Underground to Host Eddie Huang Pop-up in October

2011_0928_toki.jpg Toki Underground will be hosting Chef Eddie Huang of New York's Baohaus for a pop-up event on October 14 and 15 starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Huang and Chef Erik Bruner-Yang will work the line together with a menu consisting only of Toki's ramen items with Huang cranking out his Chairman Bao, Haus Bao, BirdHaus Bao, and vegetarian Uncle Jesse Bao.

Chef Huang might be best known outside of NYC for his Twitter feed, Top Chef commentary on Eater, and the epic letter from his mom about the less-than-great review of Baohaus Xiao Ye in the New York Times.

  • dun you are a splitting hairs. pop up is anything that mofuckin pops up such as: a chef, a jack in the box, or this dick

Maybe I'm splitting hairs (or noodles) here, but doesn't a "pop up" event require the use of previously unoccupied space, or one with a different use on most days. This is just a restaurant bringing in a guest chef.

  • Exciting!

Tiny thing, but I think his mom's letter is in reference to the review of Xiao Ye found here http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10....

    The Times loved Baohaus.

  • what's the word for this - similar to "starchitect" - star chefs. blah blah blah.

  • I think the word is Spike Mendelsohn.

  • PedanticMFr

Speaking of which, did you hear about Spike's new place catering exclusively to constipated anti-colonial Kenyan Rebels: Pop a Prune, Mau Mau.
(I really hope Monkey hasn't already thought this one up, it took me for ever!)
