Well, now we know. The Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade was the place to be this long weekend. Flickr contributor stevegoldenberg.com was our man on the spot, taking us behind the scenes with Miss Fire Prevention 2011-2012 and her entourage as they prepared for their moment in the spotlight. (EXIF.)

  • They should never put kids in heels.

Looks like the Fire Prevention Queen could just stomp out the fires.  Just sayin'...

Does anyone else remember when Miss Fire Prevention was about preventing fires, reporting suspected Communists, and promoting teen abstinence? Now it's all about the glamor, the bling, and the hippity-hop music. This parade better stay far away from my lawn.

But she ate everything that could catch fire...so mission accomplished.

That was an unworthy cheap shot.

At DCist, we prefer to mock people who are able to defend themselves. And, of course, the squirrels.  There's better people to make fun of than a kid who's at that awkward age where they're too old for the happy hour at Wonderland Ballroom but not old enough to throw rocks at bicyclists.

Too old for happy hour! NEVER!

  • Looks like she found out some douchenozzle wants to call the parade route the "Pink Line."

This is nice; a slice of Americana.

  • I feel the sudden urge to run 5 miles, or until I drop

    SPARKLE BABY!

(but be careful with those sparklers kids)

That kid in the white hat? I'm beginning to question his commitment to Sparkle Motion.
