DCist is a website about the Washington, D.C. area and everything that happens there. That means news and events, restaurants and nightlife, happenings, goings-on and observations.
DCist was officially launched on Sept. 7, 2004, and is authored by a growing group of hard-working bloggers. We love our readers -- feel free to leave comments and, if you're inclined, purchase advertisements. You can submit to our Flickr photo pool. We also hold occasional happy hours, meetups, concerts, photography shows and other events.
We're dedicated to documenting the nation's capital and all its quirks, one small detail at a time. If you have post ideas or tips, direct it to one of our writers. We're always looking for new contributors, so if you love Washington, D.C. and want to write about it, send us an e-mail.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I write for DCist? Send an editor a note with a little information about yourself and an example of your writing. We do it for the love, so don't quit your day job.
I've got a juicy tip. Want it? Damn straight. We accept tips of all kinds, and we won't go all Robert Novak on you and reveal your identity if what you have to say is sensitive. That being said, we do try and stick to journalistic standards on tips and background info -- we'll fact-check it and try and confirm it. If you have something to share, email it to the relevant staff member of your choice — or just an editor, if you can't find the right person to fit the bill.
Do you have an RSS feed? How do I subscribe? You can read all our posts in our RSS feed located here. If your reader is compatible you may also be able to subscribe to our Atom feed. Check out this webpage to learn more about RSS.
Would you be interested in this long freelance piece? Probably not.
How can I submit my photos for publication on DCist? Either tag your photos on Flickr with 'dcist', or submit them to DCist Labs.
Where should I send my press release? If you are promoting something you think we'd be interested in, please send it to whatever section editor seems most appropriate. If you can't figure out who your notice ought to go to, just send it to an editor. Or maybe you'd like to take things into your own hands? You can add your events to our public events calendar at Upcoming.org.
Do you really hate freedom? We are now, and have always been, lovers of freedom.
