  A thought. Why not just shut down 7th street permanently to cars and make 9th two-way? Leave 7th for buses and bikes only. That way you could widen the sidewalks, also -- which are way too congested with people....

  I, too, think Portland gets a little too much hype. Arlington deserves just as much or more credit for their planning. Great piece looking at Obama's positions on transit and biking. Let's hope Obama would carry his words into action...
