Friday night was a particularly violent one in the District. D.C. police say at least seven people were shot in the city that night, including 17-year-old Paul Jones, who was shot and killed at around 9:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW. Jones was pronounced dead on the scene, while another teen was wounded in the incident and taken to a local hospital. WJLA talked to residents wondering aloud about the relative safety of the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood.

There were at least five people shot in Southeast over the course of the night, including a male victim who was shot and killed around 9 p.m. in the 3500 block of 7th Street SE. In separate incidents, two male victims were shot and injured at 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Oakwood Street SE, and a male teen was shot in the leg around 5 p.m. in the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue SE.
