Photo by clio1789Good morning, Washington. Large crowds will converge on the National Mall today, resulting in street closures, crowded Metro stations and strained resources. This feeling of déjà vu is brought to you by the annual March for Life, which brings activists who oppose the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision to town for a large march and demonstration. The relevant road closures, which will last until 7 p.m., can be found here. We’re just guessing here, but probably this crowd won’t be as excited about waiting in long lines outside Ben’s Chili Bowl.
Oath of Office, Again: When someone told us last night that President Obama had taken the Oath of Office again late yesterday to make sure he got it exactly right, we thought it was a joke. But, no. Does this mean that Joe Biden was actually president until 7:35 p.m. yesterday? Doesn’t seem like it — the Constitution does stipulate that Obama became president at noon Tuesday even without taking the oath.
The Numbers Game: The official Inaugural crowd estimate released by the District yesterday is 1.8 million. The National Park Service, which by its own rule won’t make official crowd estimates, released a statement saying it would not contest that figure. The Examiner has a bunch of experts who think the figure is too high. No one really knows for sure, and they won’t ever know. But get used to quoting that “official” 1.8 million number.

This Day in DCist: In 2008, Mayor Fenty announced the switch to all city services being reachable via 311, and in 2007, WETA radio gave up its talk format in favor of classical music.
