National Mall Plan Seeks to Replace Reflecting Pool, Sylvan Theater: The Post takes a look at the National Park Service’s “preliminary preferred alternative” plan for remaking the National Mall, and the changes appear to be relatively major: replacing the reflecting pool with some other kind of water feature, and building a new multipurpose entertainment facility on the site of the current Sylvan Theater chief among them. Two public meetings on the plan have been scheduled: Wednesday, March 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 14 from noon to 2 p.m., both held at the Old Post Office building, room 107. Metro Board Meeting Today to Discuss Service Cuts, Retail: Metro’s board is set to meet this morning at 11 a.m., and topping its agenda will be the looming $30 million budget gap that the agency is facing come July. The Post’s Get There blog notes that the board is expected to decide today whether to send a plan for service cuts out for public hearings. And the Examiner’s Kytja Weir writes about the board’s hand wringing over whether to recommend that food sales ought to be included in a proposal to finally open up Metro platforms and stations to retail vendors.
