In a summer full of festivals, sometimes some can get lost in the shuffle. But in the midst of your Capital Fringes and your unions of hip hop and theater, there’s one event that boasts 300 artists and 3 weeks of offerings — the Source Festival.

Now in its second year, the Source festival isn’t necessarily the place to go for a specific play or to watch a favorite performer at work. Instead, it’s more of an exercise in checking out how the city’s talent works together. The Source Festival’s all about collaborations, whether it be between actors and playwrights or various disciplines.

Events of note:

*Short attention span? Check out many of the event’s 10 minute plays, all directed by familiar names to the D.C. scene. “Armed With Peanut Butter” probably wins for most intriguing title of this year’s lineup.

*Sucker for those 48 Hour Film Festival events that always seem to be running over at AFI? Who needs 48 hours — Project 24/7 gives creative types only 24 hours to put together a short performance piece.

*Fan of train-wreck television? The event with the most potential for the unexpected (though they’re not promising any cringe-worthy moments) has to be the “Mash-Ups,” which pair up players of different disciplines on “creative blind dates.”

*Just want to see some honest to goodness theater? There’s some new One Acts to see by last year’s 10 Minute participants, and even some full-length efforts — in the form of staged readings.

The Source Festival runs June 20 through July 12 at the theater for which it’s named. Tickets are $18 per event and available online.
