For all the hubbub about Virginia being one of the keystones of the new Democratic revolution, it’s still important to remember that the states still boasts a fairly wide conservative base. A fairly wide conservative base whose leadership has obviously mastered the art of using iMovie to splice together a montage of Tim Kaine speeches, postcards, “I’ve Been Everywhere,” and huge text overlays. Take that, lefties!
The genesis of this radical new technological leap? It appears as if the Old Dominion GOP has a bit of a beef with the current Governor for all the time he’s devoting to his other gig as the head of the Democratic National Committee, traveling across the country for what he’s called an “electronic gig” while Virginia’s current budgetary issues deepen.
The Republicans have submitted a FOIA request to document Kaine’s travels and expenses over his tenure as the head of the Committee. Hey, at least the Governor — who is in Kansas City this weekend — is keeping his travel fairly public, unlike other politicians who are traveling to China, Dubai, or uh, Parts Unknown for who knows what.
One small issue for the right in this debate: former Republican Governor Jim Gilmore was the head of the Republican National Committee during a similar time of budgetary crisis in the state around the beginning of the decade. This, other than the fact that the video campaign is more a good laugh than anything else, is probably the Dems’ best response to the claims.
But don’t take my word for it — let the public access-like magic of YouTube take you away! Lights!
