After collecting feedback ( i.e., complaints?) from staff, students, and parents for more than two years, DCPS has finally launched the redesign of its web site, and our first impression is that it looks pretty darn good.
The old site, while functional, could be a chore to navigate. Specific information about test scores or initiatives was often difficult to find, and the search function was pretty terrible.
Browsing around the new site, it looks like effort has been made to more clearly organize content. The new URL — dcps.dc.gov — has been updated to reflect the naming schemes of every other District government site, and the Human Resources section in particular has been revamped. Forms and policies for employees are much more accessible than in the past, something many teachers we know will appreciate. We also like the collections of student writing and art and video interviews.
DCPS says there’s more to come, including RSS feeds (will Michelle Rhee be blogging?!) and searchable school and office directories. Take a look around, and let us know what you think in the comments – or tell DCPS yourself.
