A friendly Friday afternoon reminder from your pals here at DCist about this weekend’s Metrorail closures along the Green and Yellow lines. Don’t forget that the Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter stations will be closed completely, along with Green Line service at L’Enfant Plaza, starting at 10:30 p.m. tonight and lasting through closing on Monday, Oct. 12.

As we’ve told you before, WMATA is spending the holiday weekend replacing the entire rail interlocking at L’Enfant Plaza, while at the same time conducting an annual safety inspection on the Yellow Line Bridge over the Potomac River. This means that for the entire weekend, the Green Line will operate split into two segments: between Branch Avenue and Navy Yard and then between Greenbelt and Gallery Pl-Chinatown. Meanwhile the Yellow Line will be running from 10:30 p.m. through closing tonight only between Huntington and Pentagon, and then from Saturday through Monday, Yellow Line trains will be rerouted to connect to Blue Line tracks, and run only between Huntington and Stadium-Armory.

Full details on the availability of shuttle bus service around the closures can be found here. But the concise advice is this: don’t count on the Green or Yellow Lines this weekend.
