UPDATE 9:20 p.m. We can now confirm that the second victim has in fact died. The Post has also updated its story.
UPDATE 6:49 p.m. We should note that the Post is still quoting D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty as stating that the second death we reported earlier may have been in error. Fenty described this victim as currently in grave condition, but still alive, as of about 6:10 p.m. DCist had been told that this second victim had been shot in the head, and had subsequently died at a local hospital. We’ll continue to update when we can confirm this information.
Two people are dead and three others are wounded today after shooting broke at around 4 p.m. in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE. At least two of the three survivors are said to have critical injuries, according D.C. Fire/EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer.
The Post notes that the shooting, which appears to have been a drive-by, took place in the Clay Terrace housing projects, “an area long known as a problem area for violent crime and drug activity.”
All of the victims are said to be male teenagers or young adults. WJLA reports that one victim was pronounced dead on the scene, while the second died later at an area hospital. More on this as we have it.
