It’s no longer snowing outside DCist headquarters, and a hefty dose of sunshine is doing some good work — but boy, is there still plenty of white stuff on the ground. An update for those of you who are looking forward to getting back to reality: getting around, locally and in the wider sense, will definitely still suck today, oh yes.

  • As far as roads go, DDOT says that your street should get plowed today! If it hasn’t happened by this evening, they are directing residents to call 311. Oh, and do remember that a snow emergency is still in effect, so parking on marked Snow Emergency Routes is still a no-no.
  • As we tweeted last night, Metro will start the day operating underground only. We’ll certainly update with more information when a decision is made to the contrary — but WMATA says that “hundreds of its railcars are still under snow,” and they are focusing more on the goal of clearing it all for Monday morning’s rush hour, rather than this afternoon.
  • Metrobus, though, has begun to resume limited service on the following lines: the 70 line, the 90 line, the S line, the L line, the V8, the 30 line, the X2, the 80 line, the U8, the 50 line, the A line, the W6/W8 and the W2. There will be no MetroAccess service today, though.
  • As of 10 a.m., the D.C. Circulator has resumed service with fewer buses. Longer wait times will be in order, and DDOT says that Circulator buses can’t handle Columbia Road and Calvert Street, so there is no service to Adams Morgan or Woodley Park at the moment.
  • Despite assurances that Amtrak was “100% on time, everything is raring to go,” hundreds of people ended up stranded at Union Station last night. Amtrak is projecting delays of an hour or more for trains traveling along the Northeast Corridor, and trains heading in other directions had trains show up broken or not at all. Amtrak’s service alert page is useless. We’d recommend you call, but are getting reports of friends spending an hour on the horn with no resolution.
  • Bolt Bus has canceled all service today; judging on the stories we heard about hundreds of people being stranded at the Greyhound station yesterday and the condition of the roads, taking the bus is surely to be a real adventure today.
  • Area airports are also a scene, bulging with still-interrupted service and what will surely be a complete mess of people attempting to reschedule yesterday’s canceled flights. BWI was closed for a period yesterday afternoon, but at least has two runways open. National Airport — who’s website is even struggling to load at this point — opened at 10 this morning, but crews are still working on runways, so air traffic will be incredibly slow and may not start until noon at the earliest. Lastly, Dulles only has one runway open. In addition, the Washington Flyer Coach is not running between Dulles and various Arlington destinations; with cabs surely driving slower than usual, we would prepare to wait a while for a taxi to any terminal today.

We wish the best of luck to anyone taking their chances with the roads, tracks, or skies today — remember to pack a lot of patience as you forge your way to where ever you’re going.
