Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark.)

Congressman Marion Berry (D-Ark.) has decided to retire, becoming just the latest Democrat from a competitive district to throw in the towel this year.

DCist notes this news not because of what it means for the balance of power in Congress, although that is certainly interesting. Nay, DCist notes this news because it means that one day very soon, we will likely not have to spend any more time explaining the difference between Berry and our own Ward 8 Council member and former three-term mayor, Marion Barry. That two men share such an unusual name was strange enough, but that both are Democratic politicians working in Washington was practically a cosmic joke.

And for those of you who read this headline and thought that perhaps Barry had finally decided to retire, our sincere apologies. Blame the parents of these two guys for naming them both after a fruit.
