Be honest: does the scene outside your home look as bad as you imagined when you laid your head down last night?
The snow is, obviously, still falling. Getting around — whether that’s by air, car, Metrobus or rail, train, or on foot — is going to be an adventure. Even a large section of Interstate 66 closed down around midnight.
Perhaps the biggest concern for weather workers today are trees, which under the weight of this wet, heavy precipitation were snapping throughout the night. Downed branches have caused road closures (Canal Road between Arizona Avenue and Foxhall Road in northwest), but more importantly, power outages. A whole bunch of people — Dominion and Pepco customers alike — lost power between last night and this morning, and surely more are to come. (Grab the flashlights and the candles.)
WUSA’s live, streaming ruler on the patio feed says that we’re now at about 15 inches. Welcome to the middle of the blizzard of 2010, everyone. Make yourselves comfortable in the comments — we’ll be here all day.
