Photos by Mehgan Murphy, courtesy National ZooIt’s time for another naming contest at the National Zoo, this time for the two Andean bear cubs that were born in mid-January. The naming contest coincides with some exciting news for baby animal lovers — the cubs are set to make their public debut at the zoo on May 22.
Possible names for the two cubs — one female and one male — are listed below. Zoo officials note that the male, pictured above on the right left, has more pronounced “eyebrows” or spectacles (Andean bears are also sometimes called spectacled bears) than his sister, and that’s how they tell them apart.
The winning names will be announced on May 19, two days before the cubs go on display at the zoo. Vote here for your favorite names. We kinda like Bernardo & Chaska.
