Fear not, local music lovers. Fort Reno’s 2010 season is more than just a distant dream at this point. The first show of the season has at last been scheduled, for Monday, June 28. The rest of the schedule is still TBA, but a start date is something. Something I can hang my hopes of popsicles and rock ‘n’ roll and blankets on the grass at dusk on.
The first show will feature Tiny Bombs, America Hearts and The Public Good. The only one of those we’re familiar with is America Hearts, and they are a truly great band made up of members of some of D.C.’s other best bands (Jess Matthews, Olivia Mancini, Justin Moyer and Mark Cisneros). Tiny Bombs have not one, but two songs named after Redskins players, so I am sure they are probably the best band of all time. The Public Good seem to play standard American college radio rock. All in all, we’re looking forward to this inaugural show.
The standard rules aren’t posted on the website this year, but it’s safe to assume they have stayed the same: shows are free and music starts and ends promptly, from 7:15 to 9:30. Picnics, non-alcoholic beverages, kids and dogs are more than welcome; booze and glass bottles are major no-nos. Don’t forget bug spray and a few bucks for the ice cream trucks. And if the mood strikes you, do a good deed and give a few bucks to the Fort Reno cause. They can’t bring us these delightful evenings without your help.
