FRIDAY:
BOOKS: Nats fans still beaming over Strasburg’s great debut may not be able to follow him all the way to Cleveland for tonight’s Nationals game. But you can nevertheless kick off your weekend with a live baseball outing: City Paper writer, friend of DCist and Livingston Award winner Dave Jamieson will appear at Politics and Prose to chat up his book Mint Condition, the only history of baseball cards that matters. See if he’ll sign your Topps singles at 7:00 p.m. tonight. Free.
JAZZ: G. Calvin Weston, breakthrough drummer for free-jazz giant Ornette Coleman, will head to The Fridge to play a tribute to the jazz pioneer with a group featuring, among others, Fugazi’s Jerry Busher. $10, 8 p.m.
MUSIC: Your first opportunity to see Olivia Mancini rock out this weekend is at Rock n Roll Hotel tonight, with Tom Bridge, Treading Lemmings, and the always excellent Andalusians. $10, doors at 8 p.m.
ROBOTS: Robots have pride, too, or at least approximate the human emotion to the best of their ability! Hosted by Pink Line Project and Palantir, the kickoff party for Digital Capital Week features music, art, robots and beer. Tickets are $20 in advance and the event takes place in Blagden Alley (the sometimes-home of Fight Club).
CLASSICAL: The Kreeger Museum over in Foxhall is home to the June Chamber Music Festival. Enjoy the music of Bach, Villa-Lobos, Raimi and more for $35 at 7:30 p.m.
