Photo by philliefan99.Good morning, D.C. It was a long Friday night for the District’s emergency personnel, as no fewer than four incidents of severe violence took place within about a one hour frame between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. Three shootings — near the 2900 block of Yuma Street SE, on the 800 block of 8th Street SE and a big incident which wounded three at the corner of Georgia and Missouri Avenues NW in Brightwood — and a stabbing on Mount Pleasant Street NW had police and EMTs running around, trying to piece together details. The Post provides some basic notes about each altercation, but at this point, they all appear to be either the result of fights going too far or simply a random act, with no connection to any previous crime. Welcome to summer, I suppose.
>> Keep an eye out for street closures around the National Mall this weekend as the inaugural Washington, DC Triathlon (not to be confused with the Nation’s Triathlon, mind you) which will happen on Sunday morning. To get an idea of where to avoid, check out the course map. Metrobus riders will also see a large number of triathlon-related detours.
>> Stephen Strasburg: still really, really good.
>> DDOT director Gabe Klein is the new President of the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials, which even includes transpo leaders from the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. DDOT Dish has Klein’s first remarks in the role — just another notch on the belt for one of D.C.’s brighter governmental stars.
