The University of Maryland has entered into an agreement with Big 12 powerhouse Texas for a home-and-home series starting in 2014. The first game would take place at nearby FedEx Field, while the return game would be played in Austin the following year.

This is a win-win for both programs, as it gives each team national television exposure, plenty of available tickets given at FedEx Field’s 91,665-seat capacity, and a generous payout. As reported on ESPN1300 AM, each the two teams combined would immediately receive $3.5 million from the deal, not to mention the money each school would earn via their respective conference television contracts.

What makes this out-of-conference game even more appealing is that the Washington metropolitan area is home to one of the largest Texas alumni bases in the United States. Add in the fact that Longhorn fans travel rather well, and you have yourselves a capacity crowd.
