While all your friends were flipping out about the “death grip” on their iPhone 4 or maybe showing off their Evo 4G, everyone’s favorite local cable monopoly quietly began offering 4G wireless service in D.C., Baltimore and Richmond, through a partnership with Wimax provider Clearwire (also known as Clear). Clear and Sprint turned on their 4G coverage for D.C. at the beginning of June, so Washingtonians now have three options for 4G wireless service, plus a fourth 4G-ish option (keep reading).
4G is supposed to be between three and five times faster than 3G, plus there aren’t any pesky monthly data caps. So you might be curious: should you run out and sign up, or wait for the carrier you already have to get their act together?
Unfortunately, Comcast is not offering any kind of bundle to existing customers, so there’s really no advantage to signing up for 4G service through them…unless you count having an even bigger cable bill each month.
