View D.C. Pedestrian/Cycling Accidents – July 2010 in a larger map

Last week, we reported on a grisly pedestrian accident on M Street SE. While the Washington media reports on many pedestrian and cyclist accidents, most people don’t realize how common they really are in the District. D.C. Fire and EMS reports that there are 8 to 10 pedestrian accidents every day.

In an effort to examine the apparent danger of crossing the street or riding a bicycle, we’ve collated data from D.C. Fire and EMS’s tweets in July, and present them to you here on the above map. Again, these are not all of the pedestrian and cyclist accidents reported each day, just the ones that were tweeted — we think that it provides an good look at where these accidents are happening in the city.
