They’re not called Offseason Champs for nothing, and the Skins have been busy since the 2009 mercifully ended. There’s a new coach, a new general manager, and a new quarterback, all with marquee names that the Redskins have always craved. But will it be enough to crawl out of the NFC East cellar? That depends on how you answer the following questions.
1) How will Donovan McNabb fare in a new setting?
There’s no doubt that the trade for McNabb was the team’s biggest acquisition of the offseason, giving new coach Mike Shanahan an experienced hand at the helm of the offense. Philly fans were all too happy to be rid of McNabb and the downward trajectory on his passes. Washington fans had an interesting mix of emotions: after all, he’s been the enemy for so many years. McNabb replaces a generally respected but unsuccessful signal-caller in Jason Campbell. He’s one of the best quarterbacks of his era, but his durability is a question given that he’s played 16 games in a season just four times in his 11 year career. Given how beaten down my expectations have been by Brunell and Campbell, I’m excited for McNabb and to cheer for him for a change.
