The Redskins running back is one of the more charismatic players in the league when he’s on and generally, he seems like a good guy. But he’s gotten himself into a little hot water today, after he made some comments about the Ines Sainz situation.
In case you don’t spend your rare free time browsing sports gossip sites like I do, here’s some background. Sainz is a broadcaster for Mexican network TV Azteca. She went to New York to interview Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, and was allegedly harassed by members of the team while she was reporting. Sainz claims that Jets players made inappropriate comments to her on the field and in the locker room. Sainz is a rather, uh, bubbly presence, and is a former Miss Universe; the Jets are a bunch of young men who are even more testosterone-laden than normal dudes. This doesn’t excuse or explain anything, but that’s the facts.
Portis decided to address the situation today on his radio program — considering that he’s got a perspective on it, being a player and all. It didn’t go well.
