There’s been some talk recently about a possible medical marijuana dispensary in Georgetown. The Georgetown Metropolitan asked the question last month, “Would You Care if Medical Marijuana Were Sold in Georgetown?” Well, one CBS Radio news anchor and his wife allegedly operated a “private sector” marijuana “dispensary” out of their Burleith home.

The Associated Press reports that MPD executed a search warrant at the home of Howard Arenstein and his wife Orly Azoulay in the 3500 block of T Street, NW Saturday. Officers had received a complaint of marijuana growing in the couples’ backyard. A search of the property found several large cannabis plants, some at least eight feet tall, as well as packaged marijuana inside the home. Arenstein and his wife have been charged with possession with the intent to distribute.

Who’d have guessed? A homegrown marijuana operation in the heart of affluent Ward 2! Hidden in plain sight, so to speak. A report at the Washington Post says eleven fully mature plants were found, as well as six two ounce bags of packaged marijuana.

Arenstein is listed on the CBS News web site as the Washington Radio Bureau manager.
