But, as several of you have pointed out, Metro isn’t any sure bet on the weekends either. On the bright side, Metro will be opening up at 5 a.m. on Sunday to accommodate Marine Corps Marathon runners and attendees, so that’s a plus. But what will you need to watch out for on Metrorail this busy, busy weekend? Well, Prince George’s County folks should certainly feel aggrieved — but it certainly isn’t as complicated as all the street closures:
Red Line:
>> Here’s the big deal — WMATA will running trains from the Red Line’s termini at Shady Grove and Glenmont every 15 minutes all weekend. This is important, because we imagine that there are going to be a lot of Marylanders on both Saturday and Sunday who will be parking and boarding trains there to get into downtown. If you’re planning on using stations farther down on the Red Line, be sure to prepare yourself for some rather tight squeezes.
>> Those traveling between the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet University and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations will experience delays as WMATA works on a section of track between the two. 20 minutes is what we’re hearing from WMATA, though heavy traffic on Saturday as people who are planning on parking in the suburbs and traveling down the Red Line to the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear will likely cause some crowded trains. This work runs all weekend, beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow.
>> Metro will be working on the platform at the Rockville station. Trains will be single-tracking through Rockville all weekend, beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday and closing on Sunday.
