See, getting D.C.’s details right in a movie isn’t so hard! Ryan Kearney shares the trailer for Below the Beltway, a “low-budget indie flick” which filmed around the city for 19 days back in June and sure looks like one pulsating drama.
(What’s that? This is supposed to be a comedy? You could have fooled me with that voice-over.)
The movie, which won the “U.S. best of” at the Newport Beach Film Festival and whose IMDB recommendations — Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Black Sheep and Definitely, Maybe — are…interesting, doesn’t yet have a theatrical release date. But based on the preview, the movie sure looks like it features some accurate portrayals of the Metro, rowhouses, Politico’s newsroom, D.C. restaurants and Union Station’s verandas. Of course, we haven’t actually seen the film yet, so it’s quite possible that the director had the protagonist’s office look out on a bunch of skyscrapers, or climb on board the Georgetown Metro.
