D.C. as a cherry Pop-Tart, by John Holcomb.

Artist John Holcomb’s The United Plates series re-imagines U.S. states as food. Holcomb whimsically and deliciously illustrates Alaska as biscuits and gravy, Iowa as a package of Twinkies and Tennessee as a hot dog, to name a few.

But despite the fact that it’s not a state, Holcomb told DCist that he couldn’t ignore the number of people who clamored for D.C. to be a part of the project.

“I had a plethora of e-mails from people asking me why there was no D.C.,” said Holcomb via email. “So, I obliged!”

It’s a good thing Holcomb did — the District’s print is perhaps one of his most clever creations: D.C. as a cherry Pop-Tart, complete with a Potomac River of delicious filling.
